Courses of medical interest :
M9-85, “Joint Medical Planner Course” (course number changed from M9-79 to M9-85 in 2005)
Aim: To provide the necessary background knowledge to undertake a NATO medical planner’s appointment and to provide national planners with an understanding of multinational medical support planning. The mean areas are: structures, doctrine and operational medical planning procedures and techniques.
M9-86, “Senior Medical Staff Officer Course”
Aim: To provide knowledge and detailed insight in NATO’s medical support policy. This includes: policy making in NATO, NATO Medical Doctrine, strategic force planning, multinational medical support options, relations with other international organizations.
M9-87, “NATO Medical Intelligence Course”
Aim: To provide fundamental knowledge of NATO medical intelligence procedures, including concepts, precepts, terminology, general programme management and procedures.
M9-88, “Major Incident Medical Management and Support Course (MIMMS)”
Aim: To provide the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage the scene of a major casualty incident in a military environment.

Introduction to Medical Intelligence (MEDINT):
Medical Intelligence training is aimed at staff personnel or those assigned into future billets as NATO medical staff officers on strategic, operational, or tactical level. It provides a basic MEDINT foundation, and is designed to prepare personnel for the more in-depth training at the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO), Germany.

This read-ahead module highlights the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) course, Major Incident Medical Management and Support: The Practical Approach at the Scene. This module is meant as a preparatory guide and not as a replacement for the in-residence MIMMS course.

The Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO is composed of the senior military medical authorities of member countries. It acts as the central point for the development and coordination of military medical matters and for providing medical advice to the NATO Military Committee.

The mission of the Human Factors and Medicine Panel is to provide the science and technology base for optimising health, human protection, well being and performance of the human in operational environments with consideration of affordability. This involves understanding and ensuring the physical, physiological, psychological and cognitive compatibility among military personnel, technological systems, missions, and environments. This is accomplished by exchange of information, collaborative experiments and shared field trials.
